Hannes de Reu is the Climate Change and ESG Strategy and Policy Advisor at Belgian Defence. He is the author of the Climate Strategy of the Belgian Armed Forces and in charge of the implementation of the associated implementation plan.
He is also a member of the Belgian Federal Task Force on Climate and Energy and the Interdepartmental Commission on Sustainable Development, responsible for the coordination of all related policies within the Belgian Federal Government.
As an Independent Sustainability (ESG) and Climate Change Strategy and Policy Advisor Hannes has partnered with a diverse array of organizations to drive sustainable transformation – conducting strategic workshops, developing sustainability frameworks, and advising on comprehensive ESG integration. His consultancy is anchored in a deep commitment to advancing sustainability, consistently delivering tangible impacts through strategic insights and active stakeholder engagement.
He holds a master’s degree in European and international politics from the University Of Ghent and he also studied sustainability management at Vlerick Business School while he enhanced his expertise with specialized courses at the European Security and Defence College and the NATO Climate Change and Security Course at the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, USA).
