Bastien ALEX is the Senior Advisor for Climate of the Vice Chief of the Defense Staff. He is in charge of the implementation of the Climate and Defense Strategy adopted in 2022 that aims to adapt the armies to climate change related challenges. 

Before joining the French Ministry of Armed Forces, he worked for WWF France as the head of the Climate and Energy Program from 2020 to 2023. 

During the first part of his career, he spent ten years (2010-2020) at the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS) as a research fellow, working and publishing mostly on climate change impacts on security and defense, and energy issues.

He holds master’s degrees in European and international studies from the Institute of European Studies (Paris VIII Saint-Denis University) and in Geography of emerging and developing countries from Paris VII – Denis Diderot University.
